Arle from Puyo~n

Puyo Puyo arrow shaped into a seven

So I've been playing Puyo Puyo 7 a lot. Instead of ranting a whole review about it, I'll just list my main pros and cons.

Pros:
-Soundtrack. Always love what Sonic Team does with the sound in their Puyo games. The new songs are great, Pursuit Stage music from Puyo 4 got a nice remix, and Fever classics like Popoi's theme return. Really, I can't praise the sound team enough, the Fever series has really established itself in the world of video game soundtracks. I can't wait for the PSP/Wii version to get the better quality soundtrack.

-Daihenshin Fever is actually very awesome, both cosmetically and gameplay-wise. Seeing how your favorite characters look younger and older makes it more fun (even with the accursed art style), and how it plays is very cool. Basically, Pico Fever lets you make ridiculously big chains because the puyo are shrunken, and Deka makes you play very fast, trying to make as many small chains and simple all clears as you can, because the puyo are fat and only take 3 to connect. A very unique experience for Puyo Puyo.

-Hard drop. Pushing UP on the d-pad to make my Puyo piece instantly drop? I didn't know what to expect. Now I find myself doing this in other game modes, even other entirely different Puyo games! It's awesome. Very fun doing this in Deka Fever too. One of the best gameplay additions to Puyo Puyo since... well... since that quick-spin feature put into Puyo 2 (you know, when you don't have enough room to lay your piece horizontally, you can still quick spin it vertically?) I hope Hard Drop sticks around for future titles.

-WiFi. Yeah yeah, 15th had it too I suppose... still it's just nice to see Puyo today online and from what I played, it works great. Really, the DS version of this game is going to be the best, despite the PSP and Wii versions have better graphics/sound. I mean, if you can't play online, you got the crap version :P

Cons:
(God I just realized how ridiculous my personal cons are with this game... well read anyways if you want)
-Story. I STILL don't get to play as Arle in a Puyo Puyo story mode. I don't mind playing as Ringo really, especially with how the campaign allows you to play as other characters sometimes as she gains friends, but the story really drags on, making you face certain characters too many times, and fooling around without getting to the main point of the story until the very last few parts. Other than that, my problems with the story mainly consist of not liking the final boss at all, and not caring for Dark Arle (and I really tried to, seeing how I loved Doppel Arle), mainly because I don't like Arle's voice and I can never take this game's art seriously.

-Cast. FEWER than the previous title? And seriously lacking classic characters, hell even Fever characters. Where's Yu(&Rei), Accord, Rider... hell, I still want to see Gogette return XD But really, the worst thing has to be Sega teasing us with cameos of unplayable Witch and Harpy. That's just cruel and unusual. Poor Harpy didn't even get to share her wonderful voice with us, she just stood there, as if Sega was holding her in place, frozen for the last 10 years. Let that sink in.

-Characters. Not to be confused with Cast, which is lacking, but the characters we DO have... suck. The new characters seem really stupid, at least in design... Ekoro was a cool idea for a villain, but I cannot stand his voice and attitude, so annoying. We get Draco and Skeleton-T!? However, BOTH characters are poorly represented in the Fever style. Which is surprising because I thought Sega did a great job with the classic chars they brought over for 15th Anniversary. Draco's voice is terrible, sounds like a... gremlin or something, when Draco usually sounded cute in dialog, but awesome when shouting attacks! Also, complete and total lack of interaction with Arle. Where is Draco and Arle's heartfelt reunion of beauty contest rivals? Something I was really looking forward to. Would've really helped Draco feel more like herself I think. Instead, Sega sold out, letting the Idol who promoted the game voice Draco, and do a terrible job. And Skeleton-T's character is thrown right out the window, giving him 2 similar skeleton friends alongside him, like The Banshee Trio or something. It's just strange, Skeleton-T is the calm cute skeleton, sipping his tea and enjoying life who happens to go batshit insane over spilled tea. That's absent with this "version" of this classic character.

-Graphics. Do I really have to say anything? I mean, let me just say this. Puyo Puyo 4 came out over 10 years ago. TEN years ago, we had BETTER looking Puyo games. The ONLY thing I find admirable about Fever's graphical "art style" is Sega's undying persistence to continue using it in all their Puyo games, as if it's some kind of statement or something. I mean, remember playing Puyo Puyo Fever back in 2004? Yeah it looks like that still. At least Compile tried to make their sequels look different, especially the later ones. All I'm saying is, even if I DIDN'T hate this Fever art, I'd be annoyed if even Compile made 4 different Puyo games, all using the same unique art style, no matter how much I liked it. It's just fucking lazy. SEGA NEEDS TO LEARN 2 MAKING ART.

-Soundtrack. lol just kidding, I'm just really pissed off about the game's ending/promo theme song. I mean, finally we have a Japanese vocal promotional song to go with our new Puyo game, just like in the days when Katsumi Tanaka jammed out... and we get this giant sell-out garbage cutesy-pop song with the most retarded lyrics. What an insult to Tanaka... But really, this con is more of a personal thing, it takes nothing away from the basic game, just had to rant about this here, sorry.

Anyways... MY FRIEND CODE IS 2579-1681-7592 SO LET'S PLAY TOGETHER K THX!

Anime Expo 09!

Last week I went to the Anime Expo convention in Los Angeles with my 2 best friends and it was such a blast. Seeing how LiveJournal is a place to post about personal experiences, I suppose I'll do that here, and I figured most of my friends here are into stuff like this.

My friends and I got full passes for the con and made plans to meet up in LA. This included hotel and all that good stuff. I live in Florida and my 2 friends live in a different state, so we had to actually meet up in the LAX airport. We stayed at a very nice hotel called the Westin Bonaventure, very fancy place, although the rooms were kinda small/outdated, the view from our big window was amazing. Best part, it was very close to the convention and even had a shuttle going to and from there. Most of the guests at the hotel were booked through the convention as well, so everywhere we went, we saw cosplayers and expo-goers around the lobby and throughout downtown LA, it was really amazing, like living in a world where everyone was an anime/video game fan.

The main (only) reason we went all the way across the country for a convention was to see the guests of honor, Morning Musume. If you're not sure who they are, they're an all girl Japanese music group, very awesome music and the members are very lovable. The group was there for a concert, Q&A panel, and even autograph sessions! The first day we went to the convention was Day 0 for pre-registration. We got in line super early and we were among the very first people to get registered after waiting a looooong time. We made a lot of really awesome friends waiting in line though, and we even kept in touch throughout (and after) the convention. After we got registered, we went right to the event ticket line to pick up our tickets for the concert. To our surprise, we weren't ahead in line, but still got really good "seats" (no one sits at a MM concert).

Day 1 was opening ceremony, we arrived early enough to get good spots to see MM get introduced, they even allowed cameras for pictures and video (normally cameras are forbidden around them). After opening ceremony, we met up with our new friends from Day 0 and got a very nice spot in line for the exhibit hall thanks to them. This was crucial, because the first 300 customers at a certain merchandise booth got autograph tickets for a Morning Musume autograph session on Saturday. That was a huge ordeal, the AX staff didn't anticipate 300+ people in line in a crowded exhibit hall, what a mess! However, because we were ahead in line enough, we got our autograph tickets with relative ease (I bought a cool MM photo book at the store for it!) RIGHT after that mess, we ran across the convention center to get good seats for the Morning Musume Q&A panel. A lot of fun seeing the members in person, showing their personality answering questions from fans. No cameras allowed though :(

Day 2 was the day of the concert. Since our tickets' seat row were reserved, there wasn't much of a point to getting there super early for the line, other than to ensure we got seats next to each other. We killed some time exploring the exhibit hall, taking pictures of epic cosplays and shopping for fun stuffs. We met up with our friends who were already in line for the concert, but no cutting this time! We all got seats next to each other for the show though. Glow sticks ready, we all got pumped waiting for MM to take the stage. The concert was amazing, and went by so fast. They performed a lot of their new songs and did 2 really cool medleys that included their classic stuff, I was blown away. After the concert, we all decided to hit downtown LA and get some food. That night there was a party being held at the Sheraton's ballroom strictly for MM fans. I had a lot of fun there, even though I'm not familiar enough to with MM to be considered a real fan or whatever, everyone was really friendly and the games we played were hilarious. I got covered in silly string because I lost at the karaoke game XD

Day 3 was incredible. Tsunku (the producer of MM) had a Q&A panel first thing in the morning. I got a real good seat for that thanks to my friends I made there. Very interesting seeing his reaction to his international fans, everyone was very respectful to him. After that, it was finally time to put our autograph tickets to use! Again, AX did a very bad job directing and managing the line for the autograph session, but the ticket pretty much guaranteed an autograph so no stress thankfully. I got every member to sign my photo book, and I had Kusumi Koharu sign the biggest because she's my favorite! As soon as that was over, I split up with my friends to catch the Power Rangers Q&A panel. I've always been a big fan of PR so it was cool seeing my favorite actors from past seasons. I even got THEIR autographs too (and picures)! So in that one day, I got to meet so many amazing people, AND get their autographs, unbelievable!

Day 4 was easy going. No more super important events, just hung around the convention hall, saw what looked interesting and heading back to the hotel to pack up before leaving early in the morning. Unfortunately, my friends and I got really sick around this time, I guess all the excitement (AND SWINE FLU!! zOMG!) got to us eventually. I was sad to leave, but it's good we left when we did, I only got even more sick when I got home. So, mission accomplished. Anime Expo 09 was awesome... poorly directed by volunteer staffing, very expensive, unorganized... but the fans and guests of honor made the convention very memorable. I would post some pictures or something, but I don't have any ready at the moment. Maybe I'll make a seperate entry for that around the time Puyo Puyo 7 comes out.

Puyo Puyo 7! Wait, 7!?

I was sooooo wishing this was going to be an April Fool's joke, but it looks like Sega is making a new Puyo Puyo game. I'm sure if you're a Puyo fan, you've heard all about it by now, but if not... The website for Puyo 15th had a teaser trailer animation for something called Project Ringo. It teased us with math equations that equaled 247 (Pu-Yo 7) and showed a new Fever-looking character. Finally Sega launched the Puyo Puyo 7 main page and it shows Ringo is the name of this new character, and confirms that Skeleton-T is going to be in the new Puyo game. It also shows screenshots and hints to this games new gimmick. Apparently there will be 3 different Fever modes each one having different sized puyos (much like Puyo 4's different Endless Modes). The small sized Fever shows the characters appearing younger, the medium sized shows them appearing their normal age and the big sized fever has them looking older and more adult like. Even I have to admit that sounds cool, having 3 separate ages for every character? But still, it's purely cosmetic... and with Fever's art style... I can't see it looking as cool as it sounds.

But, let's put that to the side for now. Why the hell is this called Puyo Puyo 7!? What happened to Puyo Puyo 6? I always knew they meant 5 when they said Fever, but I never got to see what kind of silly pun they would make for 6 (Puyo Puyo SHIT). Instead, I guess Sega is counting Puyo Puyo Fever 2 has Puyo Puyo 6... but, really? Fever 2 looked, sounded, and played exactly like Fever 1. Every Puyo sequel before Fever had significant changes to it, both artistically and gameplay-wise. Or maybe they mean Puyo 15th Anniversary was supposed to be Puyo 6... but that game didn't even have any new characters. I don't know, I don't care. The whole thing fails. I mean, Sega can't even make a Puyo TITLE that doesn't fail, let alone an actual Puyo game. I can guarantee this game is going to suck. The ONLY thing I'm looking forward to from this is the soundtrack... and by listening to the website's BGM... yeah... just, yeah. Man, 4 years ago, I never thought I'd find myself getting so upset over a NEW Puyo game.

I pretty much only made this entry cause I felt obligated to, seeing how I've kept this LiveJournal as Puyo exclusive as I could. But really, as far as my Puyo fandom goes... I have Puyo 4 and Puyo Box on my PSP and I play them every now and then. Other then that, I mean, I'll always be a fan, but I'll always be detached from the fanbase.

Nostalgia, my anti-drug

I don't know what it is, but I can't seem to enjoy most new video games. All the "new" video games I DO enjoy, are either remakes, ports, or sequels to video games I've enjoyed in the past. Like, looking back at 2008, the games I loved that come to mind:
Super Smash Bros. Brawl
MegaMan 9
Final Fantasy IV DS
Kirby Super Star Ultra
Final Fantasy VII Crisis Core
Super Street Fighter 2 Turbo HD Remix
And maybe a port/remake/sequel I forgot to list or two. Other then that, I spent most of 08 emulating games from the past on my PSP, rediscovering classics, re-re-replaying my favorites, and finding great games of the 90s I never knew about.
I've had all 3 next-gen systems in my house at one point now. Now it's just a PS3 and a Wii, but most of the year it was an XBox360 instead of a PS3. I should be all about the wave of the future right? The PS3 is mainly used for Street Fighter or my Dad plays shooting games on it, and the Wii is a $250 Brawl machine basically. I feel like there are so many brand new games waiting for me to fall in love with... but whenever I look to see what they are, I'm never impressed with what I find. Maybe I'm just too stubborn and I need to open my mind to new stuff. Or maybe new games today need to stop sucking.

How I've Missed my DS

It's nice to finally have a DS again. After my first one was stolen, I went more than a whole year without being able to play DS games. I bought a used one about a month ago, an original DS, not a DS Lite, and one game. However, I just now finally got my R4 in the mail. I've been playing DS ROMs like crazy. I was finally able to play that translation of Puyo Puyo 15th Anniversary, and man is it awesome! I gotta hand it to Hernan and crew, this turned out really well made. It was lots of fun today reading what the characters say, I had a blast rediscovering this game. It's a shame it looks like there aren't any more Puyo games coming out though, a lot of these character stories look like they can be sequeled on. After making her wish, Arle can travel between the Fever and Classic world now, SWEET! That would make such a cool game!

Hospitals Suck

Sorry it's been so long since I've posted on this journal. I was gone for the past several days, and right after I made a new friend here too. I was hospitalized for 6 days and everything about it sucked. Here's what happened:

Monday morning at work, I was feeling some bad stomach pains. It got so bad that I couldn't work and had to call home. After getting home, the pains continued but were weakened with medicine. Tuesday I had to call out of work again because the pain was just as bad. After trying many different medicines and methods, we decided I needed to see a doctor. I went to the hospital on Wednesday, and a doctor gave me a CT Scan, revealing that my appendix was inflamed. That night, a surgeon removed my appendix, which actually ruptured, complicating the surgery. When I woke, I was in all sorts of hell. I won't go too into detail, but I had tubes hanging out of me like I never imagined. It was so hard trying to do normal things the first few days. Slowly but surely, I got to the point where I could walk and function without nurse aid, and I was released Tuesday. I still have the staples though, very gross, they come out on the 2nd though, thank goodness. I think the week after, I'll return to work.

This was my first surgery. I've always been very healthy, never getting sicker then a cold or a 24 hour sick bug. Last time I saw an actual doctor before this, was when I was 15 years old, and I'm 23 now. I have no idea how I could get appendicitis so bad out of nowhere, but I suppose it's just a random thing like that. Anyways, I'm feeling ok now, it's hard to move around with a stomach stapled together, and my appetite is small, but I'm eating normal food again. I'll be able to be online more now without having to work, so hopefully I can catch some of you on Skype or MSN.

Oh, and a quick shout out! [info]koretetsu! I played Puyo Puyo Compendium last night, and aw man I was moved to tears by the Legacy Stage music. Simply amazing, I'll try and catch you online to talk about it.

I can't stop playing it!!

For a full month straight now, I've played Brawl everyday. The game owns me. Sorry I haven't posted for awhile, but really, besides Brawl, not much has happened.

I was bored this morning so... I made...

AN ART!

After reading other simple comics like this, I decided to make my own. I guess it's a little difficult to see what's going on in it though. Anyways, I still like Puyo! In fact, I used Stage Editor to create a Puyo-themed level for Brawl. It's awkward as heck though, maybe I'll make a video of it in action or something.

So Proud to be a Fan

Check this video out! It's AWESOME!

Just pure freaking awesome. I even see some clips in there of MY own gameplay (specifically at 3:18 for example, that was from Part 3 of my Puyo Puyo Box Quest Mode video). It's really awesome to be a part of the Madou Monogatari fanbase, especially after seeing stuff like this today. It's sad, but most fans of today's "Puyo Puyo" games don't even know what Madou Monogatari IS. There are people playing Puyo Puyo games today, and they don't even know what Carbuncle's favorite food is. Behold noobs, THIS is what Puyo Puyo really is... and you're missing it.

It was a BRAWL!!

So, last Tuesday me and my best friend went to a gaming lounge where you can play all sorts of video games and you pay per hour. We bought 2 hours of Brawl and it was awesome! I don't own a Wii, and I gave up looking for one, they're sold out everywhere, so I bet I'm going to be hanging around this gaming lounge more often now. It's called the D-Pad and you can play anything from Atari to the next gens, it's a really cool place that gets pretty busy at night. I went back there last Friday and stayed for awhile that night, way too much fun, everyone wanted to play Brawl so there was plenty of competition. I got to play through a little of the 1 player adventure mode co-op with my friend, and that seems REALLY awesome, I think I'd really enjoy that. But most of the night consisted of multi-player stock matches, where I experimented with different characters and stages. Everything was unlocked from the get go thankfully and I had a lot of fun discovering assist trophies, Final Smashes and Kirby Hats. From the 2 doses of Brawl I've had, I'm addicted and can't wait to play again.

YES!! YES!!

AAAAHHHHH HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!

I am playing BOTH Waku Puyo Dungeon Ketteiban AND Puyo Puyo 4 Kaa-kun to Issho on my custom firmware PSP! I just got them both today, finally. They work perfectly on my PSP, I tried emulating them on my computer, but the frame-rate is slow at certain parts, but on the PSP, it's perfect! Now, I must admit, I did not buy them, I downloaded them. It took me forever to get a seed for them, but just today, they both finally finished. I've never seen either game for sale anywhere, and I already own the Dreamcast version of 4, and the Saturn version of Waku Puyo, so I was super excited to finally get to play these versions.

Puyo Puyo 4 Kaa-kun to Issho isn't very different then the Dreamcast version. Besides the lower resolution, it's basically the same game. The only bonuses with this version is the survival mode, which has it's own new song, and of course the Pocket Station mini-games. Since I don't have a Pocket Station, I'm not exactly sure how that works, but from what I heard, you basically take care of your own Kaa-kun via mini-games and stuff, I suppose like a Tamagotchi or something.

Waku Puyo Dungeon Ketteiban on the other hand, is surprisingly a lot different then I thought compared to the original Saturn version I own. I noticed this right away when I watched it's full motion video intro! I had no idea Ketteiban had an FMV intro, I'm going to upload it on my Youtube channel soon. I haven't gotten too far in the game, but other differences I've noticed are, a few extra songs, larger character mugshots with extra emotions for the dialog scenes, extra enemies and extra floors in the first dungeon, and some of the animations look different. I think this version is harder as well, because I wasn't even able to beat the first dungeon as Arle, but I made it as Schezo. That would explain the meaning of "Ketteiban" :P

Portable Puyo

A list of every Puyo Puyo game I've tested and played on my custom firmware PSP so far:

Puyo Puyo (GameBoy)
Pocket Puyo Puyo Tsuu (GameBoy)
Pocket Puyo Puyo Sun (GameBoy Color)
Pocket Puyo Puyo~n (GameBoy Color)
Nazo Puyo (GameGear)
Nazo Puyo 2 (GameGear)
Puyo Puyo (GameGear)
Puyo Puyo Tsuu (GameGear)
Puyo Puyo (Mega Drive)
Puyo Puyo Tsuu (Mega Drive)
Puyo Puyo (NES)
Puyo Puyo Box (PSX)
Puyo Puyo Sun Ketteiban (PSX)
Puyo Puyo Tsuu Ketteiban (PSX)
Puyo Puyo Tsuu (WonderSwan)
Super Puyo Puyo (SNES)
Super Puyo Puyo Tsuu Remix (SNES)
Super Nazo Puyo (SNES)
Super Nazo Puyo 2 (SNES)
(And all 3 PSP Puyo Puyo titles as well... natrually :P)

And that's not to mention the Madou Monogatari games I've also played on it. I still have more ROMs to test, but so far everything works fine. I was surprised how easy it was to convert my Playstion 1 imports into PSP EBOOT files, and they work perfectly, no more messing with import boot discs and/or modified systems! So yes, needless to say, I've been playing a lot of Puyo Puyo lately. Now if only I had the Playstation versions of Puyo Puyo~n and Waku Puyo Dungeon, then I'd probably look into getting legally married to my PSP :P

My Impressions of Puyo 15th

Hello guys! It's been awhile since I've made a post talking specifically about Puyo Puyo, but I HAVE been playing a lot of it lately. It's all thanks to my PSP. After I hacked it, I've been able to play all my PS1 games on it, and run emulators for all kinds of other systems. It's like taking my Puyo Puyo collection with me wherever I go! But last night, after browsing torrents for PSP games, I came across one for Puyo Puyo 15th Anniversary. Now, at first I didn't want anything to do with it, but then I thought, what better way for me to thank SEGA for all their hard work in destroying Puyo Puyo, by PIRATING their newest Puyo game. So, after downloading it, I played it all day today at work.

Now, I have to set aside my pride and admit the game is really well made. The new modes of play are creative, and the music is phenomenal. Also, I was cracking up at some of the character dialog scenes, specifically ones involving classic characters. I played Arle's story first, and the scene with her and Schezo had me rolling. It's classic and well done, even with the new voices. Schezo's frustration as he yells "OMAEGA!! HO-SHI-IIII!!!!" awww man I was cracking up, and then of course Arle just responds by calling him "Hentai Schezo" and then starting a match... awesome! I felt like applauding.

But that's where my praise ends. The game's graphics are just terrible. I was never able to let Fever's flat paper character animations grow on me. It just looks awful, especially when you see other classic characters suffer from it now. And the extra play modes, although creative, they're just too ridiculous for normal play. I can see myself appreciating them in multiplayer situations though for sure. But one player, I just choose Puyo Puyo 2 mode over and over, and I choose classic-looking Puyos in options too, so that doesn't suck. Now if only there was an option to make the CHARACTERS look classic too :P

It's just too bad this "anniversary" game has to focus on the Fever setting and style so much. This game really should just be called Puyo Puyo Fever 3. I mean, besides being able to play classic modes, and adding a few classic characters, this game is just like the other 2 Fever abominations. Although, of SEGA's Fever era Puyo games, this one is easily the best. I like playing this one way more then I did Fever 1 or 2. There's no way in hell I'm buying it though.

My Rant on Brawl Roster

I didn't get a chance to talk about Brawl stuff at all, so I'll do so now. With all the new info pouring in, it's almost overwhelming. I'm still really excited about Brawl, but now seeing it's roster I can't help but be disappointed. I'm just glad we get THREE KIRBY CHARACTERS! That by itself is awesome... however, Nintendo of course shut out so many other potential characters. It's not so much the characters getting shut out, it's the entire SERIES' being ignored. Panel de Pon doesn't get a character, Custom Robo doesn't get a character... I mean, everyone thinks Nintendo is just Mario, Zelda and Pokemon. And with a roster like this, I don't blame the masses... but that's so untrue, Nintendo has so many different series' under it's belt, but it just chooses to ignore them. I'm sure we'll get the cameos, and the trophies and stuff as fanservice... but I mean, when it comes down to it, Smash Bros is always Final Destination, No Items, Stock Match. The characters make Smash Bros, not silly item cameos or other cheesy forms of fanservice, the playable characters are what define the game, and Brawl's roster looks like an extended Melee roster. I mean, look at the roster compared to Melee's. Besides the 2 third party characters, let's count how many other SERIES' got some love. 2. TWO. Pikmin, and Kid Icarus. And ROB... IS NOT A SERIES! That's a TOY! It came packaged with Gyromite, it was a piece of merchandise, NOT A CHARACTER FROM A FRANCHISE. I mean seriously, that would be like having the Virtual Boy as a playable character. ROB... what a joke, it would've been less offensive if Nintendo just had the middle finger as a playable character. Thanks a lot Nintendo, I'm glad ROB finally got the spotlight, here's hoping Super Scope gets to be more then an item next game. I mean, instead of branching off into other franchises, they just added MORE characters from franchises that ALREADY got attention in the roster. Wario? Wolf? 4 other Pokemon? Ike? Lucas? Brawl should be subtitled "Attack of the Clones".

But regardless, the game is going to be epic. I mean EPIC. I can't think of a more epic game then this, it's going to have so damn much in it I can't help but feel overwhelmed, and I haven't even played it yet. I'm a big Smash fan already, more so the 64 one then Melee (I even play the ROM online a lot), so I'll be sure to get Brawl ASAP. Also, thanks for the link to the soundtrack [info]benpc91, it's absolutely amazing, 312 songs @_@

It's Been Awhile

Yo LJ friends, sorry I haven't posted in so long. Things are starting to slow down in life so I figured I'd update this journal before it disappears from my mind. This also reminds me that I need to make some kind of Youtube video as well, it's about time for a new Puyo/Madou video or something... the hard part is thinking what kind of video to make though. Any suggestions? Anyone?

For Christmas, I got a new PSP. It's the new slim model PSP and it freakin rocks. I actually managed to successfully hack this one, unlike my old one, so I can play all sorts of games on it now. The PSP truly is my favorite handheld, using it to play GBA games, SNES games, Megadrive games, Playstation 1 games, and just, so on... amazing, I really had no idea how fun it would be having all these roms portable. If only it could play Nintendo DS games, then I'd be set for handhelds :P

I'm really not sure what else to say. Puyo Puyo is still freakin awesome of course, but I'm just not really into the fan-rant mode at the moment. Alrighty, so I'll end this entry with a shoutout to [info]koretetsu! Thanks again for the awesome Christmas album you made, those songs rock hard and I still listen to them often.

Sorry it's been awhile since I've done anything. I wanted to get some videos up before December started but I had trouble with my video device and never got around to it. This is already a very busy month for me, and it'll be that way for awhile. I've been working like mad. Clocking in 12 or 13 hour shifts these past few days, and after signing my payroll statement, it's all worth it. I've recently changed jobs, from one call-center to the next, however this one I'm at is the same one I got fired from 5 months ago. They rehired me with no questions asked though, and what I always liked about this place is the hours. You are allowed to work as long as you want (or physically can), and every hour you work extra pays you an additional $12 an hour... ADDITIONAL! And every extra hour worked in a week over 40 is multiplied by 1.5, so needless to say my paycheck this friday will rock hard, and my paycheck the following will be even better. I'm trying hard to keep this work ethic going for me, but sometimes I find myself soooo close to going home early. I'm ALWAYS quick to be lazy, and with how laid back this job is, it's too easy to just take a day off or an early day. But now more then ever, I need money. And I'm trying hard to keep this intense work pattern going through December so by New Year's I'll be all caught up and then some.

So I'm apologizing in advance for my lack of activity throughout Christmas. I'm going to try and stay away from going online in an effort to not get distracted. But! As a strange bonus, I've actually been playing MORE Puyo Puyo lately! As you've probably read, my PSP and DS are still missing in action, so during break time, I've been relying on a more obscure handheld. The Wonderswan stepped up big by providing me much enjoyment during my breaks at work, Puyo Puyo Tsuu on it is a lot of fun, most Puyo I've played in a long time actually. XD

WTF is a MEME?

Sorry in advance, but I have been tagged with one of those silly meme things, and I'd hate to be rude and ignore it. I promise my next entry will be much better :P

A - Available?: Yeah, but... no. I mean, I'm not looking.
A - Age: 22
A - Annoyance: Do I even have to say it? "GET REALLY REAL!"

B - Best Friends?: I suppose this means in real life. I gotta go with my 2 best buds from highschool, and my 2 awesome long-distance friends who I've traveled to Japan with. Online only though it's Ida-chan and countless other people I talk to who wouldn't be recognized by people reading this :P
B - Bar: Do curry bars count? XD CoCo Ichiban is the coolest "bar" in the world!
B - Birthday?: May 9th, 1985.

C - Crush: I don't really have a crush on anyone really, but I suppose you can say I admire certain fictional girls to the point where people would consider it a "crush" (or a mental disorder).
C - Car: Well, I suppose it IS a car, but I like to call it my "piece of junk". It still goes and stops when I tell it to though. It's still a new car to me and I miss my old one (which was actually "worse" in quality, but much more awesome)
C - Cat(s): 4! FOUR! I used to have 6, but the 2 boys ran away.

D - Dead Pets Name(s): My bad boy Jeff. We buried him in the backyard after he died a few years ago.
D - Dad's Name: Gary
D - Dog(s): Stupid smelly loud high maintenance annoying animals...

E - Easiest person to talk to: Probably my best friend from highschool, or my Mom.
E - Eggs: Scrambled with cheese
E - Email: SUPERDANNY9@aol.com

F - Favorite colour?: Blue
F - Food: Curry Rice! and Taco Bell! But I'll eat anything, I am not a picky eater at all.
F - Foreign Slang: Hm? Only "slang" I ever use is maybe like, internet stuff. Like, PWNED, or saying "lol", but I usually only do that with close friends.

G - Gummy Bears or Worms: ...I am a man who enjoys his gummy bears
G - God: ARLE! Haha, just kidding. Seriously though I stopped believing in God ever since I was in middle school and now I just ignore the subject all together. A lot of my friends are religious, and I think religion is great, it can really be a positive factor in life and I've witnessed people becoming better at life with it.
G - Good Times: Going to and spending 9 glorious days in Japan was without a doubt the single most "good time" of my entire life. It's become my goal to once again return there.

H - Hair Color: Brown... and I cut it whenever I feel like it's getting ridiculous. Just a regular haircut, nothing wild like highlights or fades, sorry.
H - Height: Oh sheesh, I haven't actually measured myself in years... most likely 6'1" or something like that.
H - Happy: Ask me this after the holidays...

I - Ice Cream: I never considered myself an ice cream guy until I tried real high quality stuff at a creamery called Cold Stone. Now I try and get a shake or dish from creameries as often as I can afford.
I - Instrument: Nothing musical, sorry. My friends keep telling me to take up something though, because they are really talented with music.
I - Idol: Someone I idolize... well I suppose I'd have to go with my favorite video game maker Keiji Inafune, or perhaps MOO Niitani? Yeah I think I "idolize" them both, awesome dudes I'd love to meet.

J - Jewellery: I can't even wear a watch without thinking something is terribly wrong.
J - Job: Telemarketing! MUWAHAHAHAHA!! That's right, the morally messed up and evil job of doom! I love it though, it pays so damn well and if you can withstand hours of sitting on a telephone, it's the best as far as "effort vs paycheck" is concerned.
J - Jokes: I guess people say I am funny, but it's not really from jokes or one-liners... it's mainly in my personality and how I react to situations.

K - Kids: NEVA!!! I hope I never have to be responsible for another human being. I can't imagine a worser fate for a child then to have to depend on the father who is more concerned about an obscure Puyo Puyo title then his first-born child's diaper.
K - Karate: Ah haha, I actually got to blue-belt as a little kid, but quit after it got boring.
K - Kung Fu: I like a lot of Kung Fu movies :P

L - Love: I love Puyo Puyo! I love Arle! I love Japan! I love annoying memes!
L - Longest Car Ride: Moving from Florida to Georgia and back and forth plenty of times during my childhood. 8 hour car trip, sure it's not bad, but doing it over and over and over really sucked.
L - Lipstick or Chapstick: Lip's Stick! ;P

M - Milk Flavor: WHOLE milk... I can't stand skim or anything like that. Feels like thick "water" in my mouth and I literally get sick.
M - Mothers Name: Holly.
M - Movie Last Watched: The Terminator

N - Number of Siblings: 1
N - Northern or Southern: Southern.
N - Name: Danny. NO WAI!?!?

O - One Wish: To live in a beautiful condo in Tokyo, Japan. And have all my best friends living near me.
O - One Phobia?: Spiders
O - Otter Pop: WTF! Did ANYBODY get this one right?

P - Parents, are they married or divorced: Seperated, never married. I live with the Dad.
P - Part of your appearance you like best: Hmm, I've been told I have cool eyes a lot, but yeah other then that, my appearance isn't special.
P - Part of your Personality you like best: My sense of humor. I'm not the kind of idiot who will laugh at anything, but once you get me started, I usually crack up.

Q - Quick or Slow?: Slooooowwwwww... mainly because I'm lazy and procrastinate a lot.
Q - Queer or Straight?: Straight
Q - Queen or King?: QUEEN ARLE IS TEH QUEEN OF MAH HEART!

R - Reason to smile: Seeing a good friend in real life, or seeing one sign on online.
R - Reality TV Show: I can't stand it, but that goes for a lot of general TV.
R - Right or Left: Right. But I hold my pencil the way a lefty does. It's weird, you'd have to see it.

S - Song Last Heard: Listening to it right now, "Be One" from Rockman ZX Advent TUNES.
S - Season: Summer ftw. Sure it may be hot, but I have great memories of summer, best damn season ever!
S - Series: MegaMan (especially Legends) and Puyo Puyo. *Kirby gets jealous*

T - Time you woke up: 8am
T - Time Now: 12:44am
T - Time you go to bed: Tonight? Probably soon, I'm tired... around 1:30am maybe

U - Unknown: ?????
U - Unicorns: THEY ARE REAL! ZOMG I SAWED ONE!
U - You are?: Who tagged me with this again? This doesn't even start with U... Anyways, I'm SuperDanny. That's who I am.

V - Vegetables you hate: None... I'll eat them all. Seriously.
V - Vegetables you love: Not sure, I like a lot of them, but I wouldn't go out of my way to eat a certain one by itself.
V - View on Politics: If I look into it, I tend to agree more with the left-side of things. But I hardly ever do so.

W - Worst Habit: Procrastination, easily. That and nail-biting.
W - Where are you going to travel next: JAPAN!!! I WILL RETURN SOMEDAY!!
W - What's up?: nm u?

X - X-Rays: What about them?
X - X-Rated: Hahaha, Akihabara....
X - XYZ: ZXA?

Y - Year you were born: (see Birthday)
Y - Yellow?: I has a yellow shirt.
Y - Year that you remember well?: NINETEEN NINETY EIGHT! Look at your most cherished video games, I bet they are copyrighted in that year.

Z - Zoo Animal: My favorite? That's tough... maybe a koala bear or just one of those insanely cute animals.
Z - Zodiac: Taurus
Z - Zoolander?: I think I saw it once in the theater with my friend... I didn't like it.

Love 魔導物語! Hate Language Barriers!

A new friend I've made has gotten me back into Madou Monogatari games a little bit. They certainly are charming and always fun to learn more about, maybe my next Youtube video will focus on Madou Monogatari, I feel kinda bad only having one video from one game of the series. I just wish more games were translated, the language barrier between me and this series is so thick that I can't stand it. I know only the bare basics of the games and when it comes to fine details, I'm clueless and often surprised when I learn about them.

Which got me thinking, if I knew everything about Madou Monogatari, and could experience the stories with perfect understanding... would I still like it as much? Something tells me that all this time I've just been loving Madou games because the characters are charming, the stories seem fun and interesting and the music blows me away. But if I knew the fine details, I wonder if I'd still like it as much. I'm sure I'd just end up liking it even more, but it seems kinda silly how I've considered myself such a big fan of a game series I can't even read while I play. Oh well, all I know for sure is the games rock, even if my view of them is obstructed by a thick language barrier. The games have Arle in them and they were made by Compile, so they can't suck ;)

Devastated

Something terrible happened to me. I feel angry, embarrassed, devastated and stupid. My PSP and my DS were stolen last night. I have no idea who did it, but it has to be someone I work with. I had both my PSP and my DS in my car, I use them during my lunch break. I happily played my DS in my car on my lunch break, and then I went back to work... and forgot to lock my car. It's still a new car to me, and it locks differently then my old one, I didn't even consider it. When I drove back home, they were both missing. At first I only thought my DS was missing, because I thought my PSP was in my house, but it was in the glove compartment, and it's gone too now. I was so flustered all night long, and as I'm typing this, I'm still in a state of chaos. It's not really the fact that I lost a DS and a PSP, it's the stuff inside them that's making me stress. I had a lot of personal stuff stored on my PSP's memory card, and my DS... I had a precious import game in the GBA slot.

It had to be someone I worked with, because I work at an office building in an enclosed parking lot. Someone must've saw me playing my DS during my break and then pillaged my car when I went back to work. I doubt there is anything I can do, I was stupid to leave the door unlocked, and there is no way I can prove someone took them. Just the thought that the person who stole these personal devices from me is someone I sit with at work everyday... it drives me crazy. The nerve. I'm going to tell my boss about it tomorrow, but I doubt he could do anything... I'd love to know who did it, whoever took it knows a lot about me if they examined the contents of the PSP's memory. A million things are going through my head, scenarios of how I can get them back, but really I am absolutely powerless and I feel crushed, ruined and just hopeless. And it'll be a long time before I could ever buy these handhelds over again, right now my bank account literally reads NEGATIVE dollars, and it's the end of the month, bill time.

I'm really sorry to post something so negative on my otherwise positive Live Journal, but I figured I'd just let people I talk with know about this, so they don't seem so confused when I'm not exactly my usual self. Also I'm sorry for signing off so suddenly last night Ida, I wasn't in any condition to talk, and I shouldn't have signed on in the first place.

My Collection... OF INSANITY!!

Oh boy a new Youtube video by SuperDanny! I just finished making my newest 2 part video for my Puyo Puyo Youtube Channel... and uh, well it's different. It's a little more personal because I talk throughout it. Yes, my voice is finally exposed to the interwebs! :P Honestly my voice is really really dorky and I'm somewhat embarrassed about this. But I was watching other videos on the tube where people showcase their collections and it seemed like fun. It's split into 2 parts (because my collection is like, the biggest evar!!), the first part is the regular sequel number Puyo games I own, and the second part covers all those obscure spin-off games I found.

It's actually very very boring to watch. I realized this after uploading, it's just... pictures of my games, and me talking about them. Easily my WORST video I've uploaded yet. I'll make up for it and post some REAL Puyo videos soon... as soon as I come up with another idea. I really only made these videos because I honestly couldn't think of anything else to make, but hopefully after looking at my collection again, I'll think of something I just have to put on Youtube for everyone.

Anyways, moving away from Puyo for just a moment, King Dedede is confirmed playable in Smash Bros. Brawl and I couldn't be happier. You know, it's about damn time the Kirby series gets some attention in Smash Bros. In Melee, Kirby was so overlooked and ignored it made me sick, the Smash Bros series owes a lot to the Kirby series because it borrows so many things from it. From 1 low-tier character in Melee, to 3 promising characters, AND Knuckle Joe as an assist... this is awesome, I can't wait for Brawl!
